Summit Preparatory Charter School is a public charter middle school in South Los Angeles. We believe that all children deserve access to a college prep education, and that that education should be grounded in literacy and numeracy within a structured, joyful environment. Our team is made up of a highly collaborative group of teachers and staff who share a passion for closing the achievement gap. We have high expectations for academics and discipline, and simultaneously value joy in the classroom, making learning fun for our students and teachers.

The teaching assistant’s primary duties include:
• Helping classroom teachers and special education teachers with small group interventions in reading, math, and/or writing
• Providing IEP-mandated push-in minutes for students with IEPs
• Leading small group Guided Reading
• Administering one-on-one assessments with students
• Working with teachers to build school culture, following the school-adopted norms and consequences
• Supervising students during morning break and/or lunch/recess
• Teaching physical education and/or enrichment
• Translating for parent meetings (if bilingual)
• Attending relevant professional development sessions
• When needed, TAs with an appropriate credential may substitute teach for classroom teachers

If hired:
• Fingerprint clearance
• TB test clearance
• Submission of transcripts to show degree conferred
• Emergency substitute credential (includes taking and passing the CBEST)

Preferred qualifications:
• CA teaching credential (in special education, multiple subject, ELA, or math) with English learner authorization
• Proof of CA basic skills requirement (CBEST) met
• Fluency in Spanish
